During the month of October, I began my research on entities that support women in the workplace in upstate New York and drafted some basic, broadly-applicable interview questions to ask when speaking with the local women in which my project will focus. These questions hit all of the major points of my project, such as exploring what it means to be a leader, the experience of women in predominantly male fields, and how to empower young women to smash the patriarchy. I also decided to readjust some of my goals in my Second September Event to make them more realistic and feasible. For example, I was planning on fully completing my research by the end of October, but I realized this was not completely doable, seeing as I will be learning more about women’s roles in politics and business throughout the entire year. As of now, I am planning to work with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, investment banker and entrepreneur Pamela Sawchuk Brown, two Emma Willard alumna, as well as local investment advisor representative Georgia Kelly, and my mother Frances Spreer Albert, CFO and CoO of Albany Medical Center. However, I drafted an email to the Alumnae Association on campus to keep my options open and see if I could connect with more alums to work with for my project. Once I meet with my manager on November 1, we will review the email and send it to the Alumnae Association. Through the month of November, I hope to complete more of my research and possibly begin the interviewing and shadowing process.
