Second October Event: Reflection

After some consideration, I realized that my project would be better suited if I learned how women’s roles in business and politics evolved from the women I will interview themselves rather than through documents or online sources. I will look into certain laws or events that surface during the next researching stages of my project or within the interviews themselves, but I feel that discovering the evolution of women’s presence in the workplace by speaking with the women who have experienced such an evolution firsthand would be more beneficial and rewarding than solely looking through several books and websites. It is important to recognize that my research will never truly be done, even after I have completed the project as a whole, seeing as women's roles in both business and politics are constantly evolving, and countless perspectives on the topic of women entering male-dominated fields on a statewide, national, and global scale exist that I would not be able to sufficiently convey and condense into my portfolio posts. I also realize that the research I conduct throughout November will be essential to completing my series of interview questions and making the most of my time with the women I will be privileged enough to speak with and learn from. Further exploring the backgrounds of the women I choose to interview and possibly shadow will allow me to tailor each set of questions specifically to them, giving way to a more productive and informative interview. I hope that reaching out to the Alumnae Association will connect me with more trailblazing local women to incorporate into my project, particularly women who have led careers in politics, since thus far I have one more businesswoman to interview than politician.
